Where and how to sit the civic exam
Since 1 January 2026, passing the civic exam is required for a first multi-year residence card, the resident card and naturalisation. Here is who runs it, and how to register.
The two approved bodies
Two bodies are approved by the Ministry of the Interior to run the exam. You are free to choose either one, depending on your situation and the nearest centre.

How to register
- Choose CCI Paris Île-de-France or France Éducation International, and a centre near you.
- Book and pay for your session directly on their official registration portal — CCI Paris IDF (francais.cci-paris-idf.fr) or FEI (test-civique.fr). Each runs its own network of centres. The fee is generally between €65 and €90.
- Sit the exam, then keep your lifelong certificate for your application.
